I have been doing some research on the poem we talked blogged about yesterday. I have found numerous webpages that stated the poem was "engraved on a sun dial at Wells College in New York"...... BUT, I was able to find just ONE photo of a sundial at Wells College - the exact same one that I photographed - without the poem engraved. The photo I found was taken in 1938 and was sold at an auction in 2008. I am thinking that possibly the TITLE of that poem is "The Sun-Dial at Wells College", is just that...the title only, and the poem is not actually engraved ON it. Could it be that folks just assumed it was engraved? Mistaken the title for its location? I looked at maps of the Wells College back in 1904, and the only sun dial mentioned or shown was the same one I visited yesterday.
One of our Road Crew members actually lived at Wells College for a few years and they are going to help me find an answer to this mystery we have uncovered! HaHa!
