Ya know, I have been sitting here doing the math. Every now and then, I get an email asking me just what it would take, how much money, etc for me to add the streaming camera back. So, thought I would figure it out for everybody that had the same wonders....
Realtime numbers here, assuming I ran the camera stream 10 hours a day, NOT at night, Not while stopped for days off: It would take about 450MB a day to run. So, based upon .05 cents each MB, and 30 days, it would cost roughly $675.00 BEFORE taxes in addition to the almost $500 I spend each month just for what we have.
I seriously can't afford that from this cowboy trucker's wallet...so I can only offer you what I am right now....
So now ya know the costs involved with adding the stream back....

For one, I seriously don't want the stream back. What you put out now is far superior. I love the big pictures.
Hey BRS: Here's the good thing: #1. Ur at the Petro in Laramie, #2. Ur already in line to get the truck worked on, #3. Sun is shin'in and u have bare Roads, an u'll be back roll'in soon. Now, just got one thing to suggest, Don't get ANYTHING go'in down to TX, LA, MS, AL, GA, FL panhandle, OR SC!! DFW is forecasted to get 3-5" of snow. At least you got good news first. DUDE, I do sincerly hope that your day gets ONLY BETTER, an BETTER, after this!! I ALWAYS said a quick prayer either before, or just after I got roll'in. I'd tell God, that if He didn't go with I wouldn't be able to do all that He wanted me to do on that particular day. May Angels surround you the rest of your day today!
I like it just the way it is, Steve.
You can't please everybody so you might as well stop beating yourself up. If they can't see what your options are...oh well. Don't take on more than you can handle. The way it is set up now works great. The others will have to adjust to it.
Those numbers make this tightwad's eyes hurt.
Steve, I liked your streaming camera but I didn't get much done from watching it. The single shot views show so much more detail, plus we can take screen shots. With the excessive cost of the streaming video, I think the still photos are superior.
Pleased you are out of the docs and rescheduled ... makes for an easier trip for you. I prefer the cam as it is now. Thanks
You have made a compelling case for substituting the still shots for the streaming video, and certainly they do have the advantages already mentioned.
There is an elaborate African webcam with sound, located on a jeep ranging through a game park that I look at frequently, never knowing what will show up. The reason the site is free is because of the many sponsors whose ads show up on the bottom of the video stream.
In a perfect world, you would be able to continue with what you have now, and also be able to stream (within the limits of cell coverage which you have often explained) due to the generosity of sponsors of truck-related products or anyone who felt that this kind of exposure is a good advertising expense.
And in this perfect world, there would be a gps driven moving pin, too.
That said, you do a heckuva job cowboy, and bring lots of joy to lots of people.
If I had the funds available, or the sponsors willing to underwrite this website (and I maintain control over content) then I would be more than willing to add the stream back like we had:)
