We have been testing the new aircards. My transmitter panel tells me we have lost the signal only 3 times, and for only a few minutes. The times were were connected, we were at broadband speeds 94% of the time! From what I can tell, we held signal way longer and better than we ever have before going through West Texas!!!
With the old aircard, all this area was very slow, or nonexistant dialup!!

The signal has been great. It's been so good that Taco has been able to read the signs overhead...ROFL...
Steve, before you get to Arizona, please check my last comment request/question in the previous blog, please?
I agree;
I have followed you most of the morning. Its 12:10 in Phoenix and you are in a rest stop. The picture is excellent and when the signal dropped you seemed to reaquire it faster than before.
Good job
Hank
Hey Hank! Watching on big screen?
I'd like to know if you saw my suggestions about the photography contests in yesterday's blog.
TexasLady, check out what I posted in the thread yesterday that has 8 responses.
ualady, don't you see the writing in the sky?
I've been singing "Out in the West Texas town of El Paso" all day - it's driving me nuts!!
Dottie - thanks for the cactus info.
"the thread" ? ? Somebody help!
I was waiting for Steve to answer you about the contests. We have entered them. They apparently don't have any good judges. ha! ha!
Saguaros are the tall cactus with arms. You see them in cartoons & Arizona.
Thanks Texas Lady
Oh thanks VT!!!! Now you got me singing it! LOL
Steve - I bet you will be glad to leave Texas - almost as bad as Ohio!!!!
YW, VT! They have fascinated me all my life, take many, many years to grow big enough to have arms, and are fiercely protected by the state of AZ. There is a picture of one on their state quarter. The US has been issuing quarters with state logos on them, just a few a year since "98 or '99.
Steve said there are lots of them on the roadside between Tuscon and Phoenix.
Nooooo. Steve will not be happy to leave Texas!!! (stamping my foot)
--joking--
Actually, there are only a few places I've ever heard Steve say he's glad to be leaving. They are in order:
any big city
a blizzard
California
New Orleans
wally world
& one just that time, Ohio.
But California is beautiful!
TexasLady..
I can't imagine them looking over his work and picking someone elses. He's entered all three of those contests in the past?
CA is indeed beautiful, so here's the explanation:
Zero rest areas, zero truck stops, (zero means so few that it hardly counts. They have them for cars, but no trucks allowed)
Extremely restricted truck traffic rules. Road lanes are narrow & not built for trucks. CA is not trucker friendly, in Steve's experiences.
TL - well now I understand!
VT, the other day I kept singing the little I know of a song that says"crossed the Brazos at Waco" (when BRS was in Waco.
Tammy, Steve says he doesn't have time for contests. It isn't his interest to mess with them.
One website rejected 10 of his photos because they said the images weren't marketable quality! They receive so many from people who have $50,000 lenses & have time to sit 4 days in a swamp under camo netting to catch "the perfect" shot.
Steve says he has plenty people who do like his photography & he is having fun just the way things are now. He does sell some & has sold to one magazine. Things will work out as they happen, he isn't chasing anything. That would involve hard word work. As soon as a hobby becomes work, the fun is over.
Now what is a thread that you mentioned?
Awright, enuff y'all! Quit talking about songs! I have too many in my head, now...probably won't sleep tonight!
Anybody have a remedy for songs in your head?
Hey Georgia....sing "Yea Alabama!"..that should cure ya!
I used the word thread as another word for blog. In forums/message boards sometimes people refer to the individual topics/discussions as threads.
As for the contests, alrighty. Just trying to be supportive.
Sorry, Alabama, don't know that one!
Anon - isn't it silly the way a song gets in your & won't leave!!
For those of you having problems with different browsers, it is most probably related to the version of WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER you have on your computer. My computer uses WMP version 6.4-- on Firefox, but uses version 9.-- on some others, and uses WMP version 11 (the latest) on Google Chrome. They all work well on my computer but, may not on others depending what version browser you are using.
VT, you are the guilty party that suggested the El Paso song that is driving me bananas! A pox on your house!
On songs in your head....I have a remedy.
Let me ask you this. On a re-writable CD or DVD, how do you erase--get rid of--the contents? By putting something else on top of it, right?
So, why not recite a favorite Bible verse, or you will never regret using your good mind to begin Scripture memorization. Even sing your favorite song to the Lord.
This type of replacement will be so much better than the time-wasting, useleness of something that has started to annoy you.
I've had ie8 and msn/ie8 open on my 22" screen since BRS turn the camera on. I use split sceen most of the time now. msn/ie is a smaller picture and fairly sharp, ie8 is a big picture and fuzzy beond the depth of field and appears to be a tele.
Last time BRS went across the desert we didn't have much picture time not so this time.
I replaced the batteries in my keyboard and not so many mistakes now. It's hard to spel with a Chicago accent!!!
I entered one photo contest and won it, can't get any better so no more contests.
ROFL Dottie!
Well, I thought I ought to say that one time while he was in the military, the base had a photo contest. No names attached to the photos. Steve's pics took first place in all 3 catergories.
It wasn't a hassle to enter though.
Thanks, TL! Will give it a try!
I'll getcha VT!
What branch of the military did BRS serve in, if I may ask. My brother was in the Army (enlisted for three years).
Someone posted the actual link to the song El Paso a few days back, sung by Marty Robbins. It was a youtube link.
