Morning Road Crew!

Yes, we have been draggin our feet today. LOL They had a major accident right in the middle of the construction this morning, so I really did not see a need to get out in the middle of it all. We are not in a hurry as we only have 475 miles to go, and do not deliver until tomorrow morning.

The accident is clear now, so guess we will get rolling here shortly.

Good afternoon BRS and TK. Don't blame you for hanging out there instead of on the road. Stay safe and try to stay cool!

Have a safe ride and keep the A/C going.

I am guessing we are back to the sprint card for today and tomorrow. there was a big difference in the new one. The broadband was about the only difference and that's enough. Everyone was looking for a better picture but that's in what camera fit's in with what you have.
HI back.

Safe Trip..................

Dottie, I love you! I have not had such a wonderful all-over laugh in more'n a week!
I sincerely hope you will get yourself a google account (it's free) so you can sign up & I request you become "ChurchMouse". It's adorable & it's you!

VT, I love you, too. I simply don't have the time to research, so we can leave it. And we leave it friends, okay?
(I do apolizize for the Wikipedia remark. I should have known you aren't that kind of girl!) ha ha.

BigRigSteve said...

nope, while we drive today, we will use the new card. I only was trying to use the old card after we stopped lastnight, to save time on the new ones. Make sense?

The Duke Of Earl. said...

Yep.

Wow, what caused all that jittering?

Just Vicky said...

Something sure isn't working right today on the cam!!!!!

Armed cactus (saguaros) coming up soon, hope you're watching!

I've asked this question in the past and I don't recall ever seeing the answer. I probably just missed it.

When traveling in the SouthWest what if any wildlife do you see in the desert? I know in other parts of the country you may see whitetail deer out grazing in a field and other animals. so, when traveling through South Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, what if any wildlife do you see Steve?

Thank you in advance for your response.

Any one know what is going on in the lounge??? I can't get in there.

Virtual Traveller said...

Texas lady - of course we are friends! :) But I'm not sure what you mean about Wikipedia - is there a problem with it?

Virtual Traveller said...

ET - I didn't have a problem getting in the lounge - didn't try the chat room.

Dottie said...

Have we passed them yet Texas Lady? I am looking hard as I can and I saw what looked to be a group or palm trees, but no Saguaro
yet.

Anonymous said...

I am talking to him right now, so I asked for you. This is his words: "Roadrunners & snakes & huge, black, very ugly ants."

Me again: Not much in the way of antelope & rabbits & things that are really out here, but they don't approach the freeways much.

ET said...

Thanks VT, I am only trying to enter the lounge and I can't even bring the page up.

Anonymous said...

Churchmouse, (Dottie) I'm looking hard, too. He has passed some. But I think they are just out of camera focus. If possible, he will pull up to one later. He parked beside one earlier, camera was right on it. I missed it, too.

Dottie aka Churchmouse said...

Hahaha, Texas Lady, I will seriously consider a blogger account as Churchmouse! I enjoyed our laugh this morning, as well.

Thanks for the info about the cactus. I took about an hour for lunch and to supervise the removal of a 60 ft pine off my fence, the result of a really bad storm a week ago today.

Surely am sorry I missed the cactus!

I have a couple of questions about the blog - underneath where it says "leave your comment" it says comments will be reviewed. Reviewed by whom, because they don't seem to be?
Also please can someone tell me how to use the HTML tags? I can't make them work.

Dottie said...

I SAW EM! I saw em, I saw a whole group of em! Bearutiful, right beside the highway!

Virtual Traveller said...

Ooooh I missed them! Too busy typing!

Dottie said...

Ya gotta learn to be a church mouse VT!

Anonymous said...

VT, for HTML tags, go to help section on blog. We've seen some use it, so it does work. All it takes for it not to work is one teeny-tiny error. So look it over carefully.
And on the comments reviewed, Steve used to approved them, but gave up. There is enough of us trustworthy to notify him if anyone was to start using foul language or making nasty remarks. Not only would we jump on them, but steve would stop as soon as possible & delete it. It's been working okay.

jilli said...

Good mornin! I saw then too...impressive!

Virtual Traveller said...

It's ok - I've just seen a bunch!
I'm happy now.

Dottie said...

I saw another one, mixed in with some brush, a really tall one! Steve, I am SOOOOOOOOO excited and still looking for more....Didja see that VT? a whole FOREST of them! Another one! Again, and AGAIN! Yippee! Whoop de do dah!

ET said...

Oh gosh, I missed them because I had to reboot the computer to get into the lounge! Drat.

Dottie said...

Keep watching, VT. They are easier to spot that I expected...they appear dark.

VT, even though Wikipedia may have some value, its not a reliable source.
Schools shutter at students using it in papers & on tests. In one instance, a professor noticed several students offering the same incorrect information, from Wikipedia.
plenty of teachers have complained about the lack of accuracy or completeness of entries.
Anyone can edit Wikipedia. If you find info you disagree with, type in your own & undo the other. They have had to lock some pages, like for famous people & politicians because of the trash that gets logged on concernging them.
So all you read on there is suspect. You may have found your answwer, you may not have. It's dreadful. Even the name, Wicki, from deceitful.

Dottie said...

Typo, I meant ET. I am too excited!, Sorry...

Virtual Traveller said...

TL - Thank you for the help but it looks so complicated that I don't think I will bother with it!

Virtual Traveller said...

Tl - Just seen your other post. I agree about Wikipedia - I have always had concerns about information on the web, which is why I look for other sources when it is important.

Just Vicky said...

Are you using the < before and > after the a,b,or i?

Just Vicky said...

( ) to end

Just Vicky said...

Well shoot, won't let me show you grrrrrrrrrrr

Just Vicky said...

VT if you had email I could show you how!

Those folks that like those cacti...check out our road crew members pictures that live in arizona. They have big ones in their front yards.

Dottie said...

UA, is there a way to sort folks by state? This is the first social network I have been in and am finding I don't know much about finding my way around the lounge.

ualady said...

Not that I know of Dottie but I will look into it.

Hello BRS, TK, and Road crew. I have followed you for some time and i think its about now i try
writing in english.
I am a hopefully retired trucker
from Denmark, with about 40 years on the road, and it is very interesting to learn how BRS is trucking.
It is now 23.00 in Denmark so it is about time for me to shut down,
but i will be back.
thanks to BRS, TK, and the hole crew
JR

The Duke Of Earl. said...

What's the speed limit in the desert (70)? A lot of trucks pass you very quickly.
What(beep beep) kind of animal(beep beep) was that(beep beep).
Do the rivers in the desert only have water in them after the mountain snow melt in the spring?

Hank said...

If any of you cactus hunters are interested I posted 4 new pics that i took this morning on my page.

Dottie said...

I have heard that birds make holes in them to build their nests. If that is true, what kinds of birds?

Anonymous said...

Hello JR from Denmark!

Anonymous said...

ChurchMouse, Some of the birds that use the tree of the desert, saguaros, are hawks, owls, woodpeckers, & martins. And I'm sure more.

Virtual Traveller said...

JV - I've just come in from the garden and seen your comments. I did manage to do italics after TL directed me to the help page, but it seemed complicated. I could give you my email address but I don't want to post it here, can I send it to you in the lounge?

Just Vicky said...

Yes you sure may do that VT!

ualady said...

Georgia...if ya like cactus so much you need to take a looksee at the cholla cactus which is commonly called the jumping cholla. I had a run in with one of those on a visit to the Arizona desert. That baby put about 30 to 40 spines through my hand. The spines sometimes curve after they enter the skin. I didn't feel the spines being plucked out of my hand at the emergency room until there were just a few left. Crikney,,,that hurt!!! Never want to go through pain like that again. So now I have a deep respect for the desert environment.

Lee said...

The so called rivers in the desert (commonly referred to as dry washes) normally only have water in them when there's a gully washer upstream from where you are. The water will come down the wash 2 to 6 feet high in a rolling wall filled with desert debris. The water will dissipate in less than an hour and the ground will dry up so that you would never know it was there if you didn't see it with your own eyes. That's what they call a FLASH FLOOD.

Virtual Traveller said...

JV - excuse my ignorance but how would I do that? I just looked at the lounge but can't see a way of sending you a message.

Virtual Traveller said...

Lee - interesting about the flash floods.

Did you see my comments in the previous blogs about driving on the right! side of the road?

Lee said...

VT-- We had a little discussion about driving a couple days ago but if there was more I guess I missed it. By the way, WE do drive on the Right side of the road as opposed to your countrymen who insist on driving on the Left. LOL

Virtual Traveller said...

Lee - if you look at the last blog from yesterday you will find it in the one with 32 comments

TL, I was wondering if the Summer school that BRS was going to help with has begun and if so, how are the children enjoying his lessons?

Lee said...

VT-- I did go back and read the afformentioned blogs about driving. I didn't think my joking statements would start a small war. LOL

Dottie said...

Lee, that "small war" was lots of fun! Glad you started it.

Summer math classes for the kids begins Aug. 3 - 11.
They didn't want to weary the kids by right back in school after getting off for the summer. And by having it right before the next session they won't forget what they were taught, hopefully.
Steve won't be teaching the lessons, the teacher makes the lesson plans. He will try to be here to meet the kids, & let them see his truck. They will have his T-shirts to wear & he can email them or answer questions. We aren't sure what the teacher will come up with. He did leave some scale tickets for her. They like anything real they can use to figure problems from.
The teacher & I both are happy as can be to have a way to hold a up a hard working person to the kids for "hero" instead of another sports figure. His example of being a productive, responsible working American, we hope, will light another kind of ideal in the kids.
We will report about it as it is in progress or over, however it works out.

Yeah, thanks Lee, I got my daily dose of laughter thru this right/left side of the road thing. "Laughter does good like a medicine"
And Dottie got a new name! And I'm here to tell you she is a funny, funny lady! Subtle & clever.

ualady said...

TL...if the children are working on division (or multiplication), they can figure out how long it will take BRS to get somewhere with the distance formula. I've used that to teach division without a calculator and of course algebra. We also do metric conversions on the fuel and speed. And for reading comprehension, I used a simple crossword puzzle made up of words from BRSs and TKs stories plus the FAQs. Just for fun I've been working on a word search about trucking for my kids. I've about given up on a coloring page of the Volvo for them since I'm not an artist of any kind. I'm in search of an artist here to do me a reproducible sketch of the BRT. Teaching is a lot more fun when you have real life examples to point to.

Anonymous said...

It is in the works for teachers to have a page onsite they can share lesson plans, ideas, & what worked for them, etc.
You might copy & paste your ideas there as soon as this feature is ready.
I know you & one other who will be ready to post.
I think you word search idea is real interesting.
This particular class right now is strickly math, trying to make it so fun to learn they won't even realize that is what they are doing.
I know she has told me they will figure how many cans of cat food TK will need if he is going to be gone for x-amount of days, etc. These kids are small.
Having care of the cat to focus on & looking forward to being able to pet her will go a long ways to making them want to learn. The teacher for this class is very inventive & a very sweet person who loves children. I know they are going to have lots of fun.

Oh TL...you've just given me another idea to pass on to the physics/chemistry tutor using raindrops on the windshield and TK! And I need to remind her about the icicles on the mirror video. Thanks!!

WHOA, big fella.

Lalou said...

Thank you TL!!. I thought about the school today only because I have so much enjoyed the trip through the desert and the discussions about cacti. I've done some extra research on the types mentioned today in the blog. Such a fun way to learn even for adults. Sorry I missed all the cam views of the cactus. BRS, thank you , and all the road crew for such an interesting day of travel and learning!Interesting day.

Dottie said...

Oh, I got all excited all over again just reading about the teaching and lesson plans using Steve and TK! How creative and what a wonderful teaching tool an over-the-road trucker can be!

My daughter teaches 5th grade math and I just must get her interested in Steve and the website. I am a teacher by training, but have not taught for many years, so this inspires me to inspire my daughter. I never would have thought of such an application.

Thanks for the compliment, Texas Lady, but the moniker "Churchmouse" really does not apply to me because I simply cannot keep my 'tater trap shut, especially when I get excited!

Anonymous said...

Alright, Dottie on the churchmouse name.
Only it makes it even funnier that you'd be a talktive churchmouse. There you go, I'm laughing again!

Glad you're inspired LaLou
