Well heck. You guys wanted to know what life on the road is like....and well, now you get to see the downside of things.

Talked with dispatch a few minutes ago. There are 7 other drivers sitting in the area waiting as well. Freight is just very slow as I mentioned before. I do not let it worry me simply because this makes up for the busy times when I run nonstop and WISH I had a break. LOL

I was told that I would move today, just not exactly sure where yet. It may have to be a long deadhead trip to the next load.

Yep, I get paid for deadhead miles as well, so no worry there.

I get asked about drivers hours every now and then. Here are the basic rules, but the actual "rules" are almost as complicated as the US IRS tax rules. LOL

Basically, I cannot DRIVE longer than 11 hours in a day. If I stop for lunch, loading, etc, that is not considered DRIVE time.

I cannot DRIVE after 14 hours from the start of my day, regardless of how many driving hours I actually got done.

I cannot work (DRIVE or ONDUTY) more than 70 hours in a rolling 8 day period.

I must take a 10 hour break before I can get another full day of driving hours.

If I go OFFDUTY/NO DRIVE for 34 hours in a row, then I can restart my 70 hour rule.

There are certain other rules that I use...such as sleeper berth, split sleeper berth, etc......but then you can get into 1001 different conditions, so I won't go into all that. But now oyu have at least a general idea of what we can do.

oh, i have ZERO problem with the driving rules. I find that it does not stop me from getting the job done, ontime deliveries, or even my photography. It all comes down to planning the trip. The better planning, the better the rules work WITH you. If you do not plan, then you can run into trouble. I am glad the rules are in place.

Many Thanks, Steve.

Great info.

Now you have me curious about the sleeper berth thing. But, no, don't go into that explanation. Split sleeper berth....is that for a friend. Don't answer that one either. LOL and LOL!

Now, why is there a "problem" if there is a "convoy". Cars travel together all the time. What's the big deal?
