I have been asked a few times by email and now in the posts, how BigRigTravels "happened". In other words, what made me design a website like this.
Years back, I came across BigRig.net. It was a website that had one of the very first webcameras inside a real bigrig, and the webcamera updated images every few seconds. I used to watch that every chance I had.
At the time I was seriously thinking about getting into trucking myself. (sounds very familiar to what I hear even today, LOL), so I wrote him an email. He replied.
His name is Steve Newman, and I personally met him a few years ago in Texas. He also is a meterologist, and he is the author of EarthWeek, a syndicated news section in many major magazines and newspapers about what happened weather-wise the prior week around the world.
As time went by, I myself got into trucking, and ever since then, I have wanted to do the same thing, but include my love of photography.
I have to admit, I really did not think my photography was worth including and showing on the web on any website, so the idea layed dormant.
In December of 2007, I came across the TexasEscapes Online Magazine, and decided to contribute some of my photography on one of their towns. The editor really liked my photography, and I have since been a regular contributor for them.
With the renewed interest and hope of actually making my very own website of a live Truckcam AND my photography, February 1st, 2008, BigRigTravels was launched.
BigRig.net has long since vanished, and Steve Newman no longer is in trucking that I know about. But hopefully, I can continue where he left off and be a positive influence on the truckers of tomorrow.

Smiling ... a writer and a photographer!
and your doing a darn good job. Keeo it up, you got us hooked.
BRAVO Steve!
Thanks for sharing!
I will definitly say that you ARE a positive influence on the truckers of tomorrow even if it is only for them to appreciate the beauty that is around them as they drive.
Thank ya. That came out kinda neat, so I will post it in the FAQ section. LOL. The FAQs are getting pretty numerous. LOL
how's the sharing the roads with the big rigs piece going?
That is so cool. Sometimes we never really know what life has ahead for us. I have to believe, God has our path already planned.
Pboutwell...I know he has our path already planned. But sometimes we mess it up when we forget to listen and think we know what's best.
Share the road has been put on hold. Figured working towards getting our Road Crew shirts hit top position, and still have yet to get out that article on How I got into trucking. LOL
Also, I noticed the other day that TWO trucking magazines had published articles about sharing the road!!! LOL. So, figured I would lay low on that, and take care of more important things. LOL
Ah but I thought you had a unique perspective .. sharing the road from the automobile driver's point of view.
We do mess up our path. Hopefully we can rectify it before we are gone.
That's good that the articles were published in a trucking magazine. However, that left out the whole population of automobile drivers.
But Steve, I don't read trucking mags. I need to know! Want to do my part to make your job easier.
See!!!!!
lol, ok, what do I do first? LOL. In between the cat, BRT email, home email, driving, etc. LOL :)
I did not say I gave up....just figured other stuff happened first.
I know you are a guy and all ... but multitasking works.

I'd meet you in Fife and bring cheesecake, but you say you don't care for dessert.

Ok...Ms. TK...time for little cats to get some shut eye. My furry friends just finished their nightly TK video and they are letting me know it's time for us to get some sleep. Snuggle up close to BRS and get real comfy (even if your fur tickles his nose). BRS - what time are we leaving out in the morning?
Night TK, BRS, and road crew!
Night, ualady, sw
