A chicken house! YUK.

Got here an hour early, and we are now waiting for them to finish others, then we will get our door.

Man, you can see how messy and horrible chicken houses can be. LOL. Trust me, you do NOT want to know what it smells like. TK sure likes the smell. :)
So, we wait for our turn to load up:)

A chicken house??? Dead or alive?

Anonymous said...

Lady I use to work with, did half a day work at a chicken processing plant. She left for lunch and never went back! Said it was the horrible job she ever had.

Anonymous said...

If you see feathers in TK"s mouth, Hide her fast!

BigRigSteve said...

LOL. Well, I know I would not want to work here. YUK. Both dead and alive. I see where they bring in the chicken haulers. Then they park the trucks in front of these huge fans to keep the chickens cool. Then *magic* happens, and I haul them away all neatly boxed ready for your grocer!

Terri said...

lol @Vicky and tacoma... I have heard that chicken houses smell bad, but is it as bad as pig farms? Because they STINK!!!!

Just Vicky said...

Equal I think Terri!! Pass some of those pig farms when I'm on I-65 near Rennsalear IN and oh my, on a hot humid summer night!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Terri said...

Steve, so how many more miles are you going to go today?

Terri said...

Also Steve, how is TK handleing the smells?

Anonymous said...

Egad! A fellow I thought I might marry, became a pig farmer! Boy, was I ever lucky to escape that.
Nothing smelly about the computers my hubby fixed. LOL

Steve, that magic, was why she left!

Anonymous said...

They bringing the portapotty to you?

Terri said...

LOL @ Tacoma

Steve, I notice your trip will take you by Mt. Airy, N.C. That's the town that is the inspiration for Mayberry. Watch out for Barney! He may want to nip it in the bud!!

I was brought up on my dad's farm and we raised both chickens (25) and pigs (20). I agree they are not the nicest smelling animals, but they were sure tasty. Now cats smell nice, but i do not think there would any taste. :)

If you've ever been by a cattle feedlot where they have thousands of cows being fed to finish out for the butcher shop, you don't want to smell that either. . Aren't we lucky to go to a restaurant where nice steaks are served and we haven't seen or smelled them before we have that nice aroma rising from our plate?

Anonymous said...

The smell of pigs is the smell of money!

Anonymous said...

I remember that smell very well. My grandmom raised chickens and I can still smell a chicken farm for miles away but they bring back some good memories of my grandmom.

Anonymous said...

Helllloooooooo Vegetarian here lol

Anonymous said...

Went to an egg farm this morning to purchase just laid eggs. But on a hot summer day, the laying houses smell relly bad, too. Makes you not hungry for bacon and eggs that day.

Terri said...

I know anon, I was raised in Nebraska and lived at one time not far from one of those cattle farms and my uncle raised cattle and pigs on his farm in Iowa..

Terri said...

LOL Sorry Ann

Anonymous said...

Not a problem Terri. Been vegi for 37 years now Dont have a prob with meat eaters Honest

Anonymous said...

Ann UK
A big mountain of rotting watermelon, cantelopes and onions in the hot Rio Grande Valley don't smell good at all!!

Anonymous said...

But AnnUK, do we meat eaters smell to you?

Anonymous said...

Rotting cucumbers at the dump smell bad on a hot summer day.

Anonymous said...

Never noticed Tacomagram

Anonymous said...

I had heard that AnnUK, so was wondering.

Anonymous said...

Don't guess animals nor vegetables smell any worse than the squalor of human beings found on Skid Row in NYC. Went there once on an "educational" tour. Had to hold perfume under my nose while walking through that.

mohogan said...

Wow that guy backing in was close!

Peggy said...

Just Vicky said...

I apologize Steve for not recieving the emails you've sent. I do chek my junk box, and everything. I will say that I did get the first autoresponse email that gets sent out the day or day after I wrote. I'll try again, or some other way.

Anyway, this talk of chickens, pigs, rotting cucumbers...mmmm. It is time to go get a bite to eat.

Terri said...

lol @ pboutwell

BigRigSteve said...

well, Tried to answer yer email, it came back as undeliverable. your email program called it spam. :( maybe it had too much TK fur stuck to it.

Peggy said...

So if they don't get you load until late you may have to stay at the closest truck stop tonight

Can a little old English lady be in your gang ? I know I am not around as much as you guys because of the time diff but have been travelling on the truck for 12 months lol

Anonymous said...

sure not as nice as the place you left. The lot sure could use a paving job.

Terri said...

TY so much..smooches :)

BigRigSteve said...

yup. it means if I get out and it is past 14 hours, then I cant move without getting a violation. Well, actually, a "split sleeper" rule lets me extend everything if I sit for 8 hours and not move. Then I get to "finish my driving hours, but then it kinda kills the next day. LOL But basically, yes, if I am someplace and time runs out, then I have to sit, or get a violation.

Terri said...

FAB 7 WELCOME ANN OF THE UK !!!!!

BigRigSteve said...

of course Ann UK. You are as much as part of us as everybody. :)

Terri said...

Steve I PRAY you don't end up having to stay there..

Anonymous said...

Oh, Hope you don't have to spend the night there!

BigRigSteve said...

I always get scared about these big water mud holes. Never know how deep they might be, and yes, I have almost tipped the trailer over in a truckstop in the middle of the night once. Scared me to death!!!! It was DEEP.

Anonymous said...

Most welcome to you Ann UK. You are one of the gang.

Peggy said...

oh I really hope you don't have to set in that mess all night

Terri said...

WOW Steve

Peggy said...

Welcome Ann UK

Anonymous said...

Steve, are you going to be a chicken, or do we get a "jig" out of you?

BigRigSteve said...

Actually, the trucks seem to be moving halfway decent. UIt was just there were a handful ahead of me. If I can get out, and get to the truckstop about 70 miles away, and it not be full of trucks (parking) then I will be ok.

Terri said...

lol@ tacoma

BigRigSteve said...

too tired to do a jig. lol! at least today anyway. But one day, when nobody online is looking, and no chicken haulers, bull haulers, or other truckers are looking. LOL

Terri said...

Steve :(

Anonymous said...

Steve :o(

Terri said...

Well Steve I would not want you to do the jig now with all that mud..U might fall down..lol

Terri said...

BigRigSteve said...

HUH? I reread all my posts...dont see where I said 2pm. Todays 14hr time limit is 1833MT. where did you see 2pm? The time stamp on the bottom of the posts is set to each persons computer clock I think?

BigRigSteve said...

and I wont ever post while I am driving. LOL. I only play on the computer when I am stopped.

Terri said...

No my last post says 3:50 and it was 4:50 when I posted

Anonymous said...

Time stamp seems to be set to your computers time.

Anonymous said...

I mean Steves computer time.

Peggy said...

So you have a couple hours yet. Hope they get you out of there.

Terri said...

sry Vicky for misspelling :(

BigRigSteve said...

yes, I am from Texas. But, all my logging and truck computer time is set to mountain. So, to lessen the hassle of what time I do everything in, I just set it all to Mountain. LOl

Peggy said...

yep I was thinkin the same thing

Terri said...

I can understand that Steve..

Peggy said...

Who is that driving all over in the pickup

BigRigSteve said...

no, they did not forget. lol. I see the same other 4 trucks here before me have not yet got in a door. Some places just are extremely slow. Longest time ever to wait to get loaded? 23 hours. seriously. that is why i have canned food and water in the truck.

Anonymous said...

Do you get a map of the layout of the shipping yards you go to. Seems it would be hard to find the loading dock you are supposed to go to. Seems you had a ways to drive in this yard before getting to your loading place.

Red said...

Steve I think someone confused 14 hours with 1400 hours which is Military for 2 PM.

BigRigSteve said...

the guy driving in the PU is probably the yard jocky supervisor. He keeps tabs of trucks in the yard, trailers, etc. Most places do that every hour or so.

BigRigSteve said...

All I have to do is find the guard shack. LOL. Then they tell you where to park, check in, dock doors, etc

Peggy said...

oh that makes sense and glad they didn;t for get you

Peggy said...

Well you sure make it look easy. There is so much more to being a truck drive than just driving. You have sure taught us a lot about all that. You do a great job.

Terri said...

Yes you have
Steve. I knew some things but BOY there is alot I didn't know

Terri said...

This thread is getting longgggg!!!

Terri said...

Not complaining :)

Terri said...

because I helped get it this long LOL

Red said...

Terri, are you in the Memphis area?

Anonymous said...

This is a fun classroom. Thanks teacher, Steve.
Hope the guard shack is not ever hard to find. Those are big places you go to get your load and unload.
Do you have GPS to help you make your exits, et.?

Red said...

I'm near Huntsville, Al now but worked in Memphis for a year in 1972. (Wow that was long ago)

Anonymous said...

Bed time here folks 1031 See you tomorrow Hope you get out of that hell hole soon Steve Night everyone

Unknown said...

ahh man that sucks to be those chickens LOL :) have a safe trip steve

duck1936 said...

Yup. Chicken farms, hog farms, they both smell pretty bad. I experienced both when I was growing up. Vowed I would not marry a farmer. Married an accountant instead.

But, someone needs to raise these animals, unless we all want to be vegetarians.
